Metrology allows for utility customers to create Time of Use (TOU) Groups that define distinct sections of the day/week for charging. When applied to a residential charger, ZEFNET will track energy/power usage during each of the distinct sections of the TOU Group, allowing utilities to charge utilities to charge members different rates depending on whether that charging occurs during, for example, peak or off-peak.
Creating a TOU Schedule
TOU Groups consist of TOU schedules. Each schedule represents the time(s) of day and day(s) of the week that should be tracked together. E.g. 7 - 11am, Monday to Friday.
1. To create a schedule, expand the Time of Use dropdown and click the sign. Give the block a name (e.g. 'Peak', 'Off-Peak', Shoulder, etc.).
2. Click the sign next to 'Daily schedules' to begin building up the TOU group. Daily schedules are effectively 'pieces' of schedules that can be assembled into a TOU schedule, so there will likely be multiple daily schedules in a single TOU schedule.
Name | Name the daily schedule (e.g. 4-11pm; M-F) |
From | The hour that this schedule starts (note - use whole numbers in military time, e.g. write '16' for 4:00pm) |
To | The hour that this schedule ends (e.g. enter '20' for 8:00pm |
Checkboxes | Each box represents a day of the week (Hols refers to holidays - see our ###Calendar### article to set up holidays). Check the box for each day that this schedule applies to. |
Repeat step 2 as many times as needed to fully build out the daily schedule as required (see an example of a TOU schedule consisting of multiple daily schedules below):
Once completed, click 'Save'. Repeat this process to build up all TOU blocks that should be applied to chargers.
Creating a TOU Group
A TOU Group allows TOU schedules to be grouped together and then applied to chargers.
1. Expand the Time of Use groups dropdown, and create a new Group via the icon.
Name | Name of the TOU Group (e.g. Utility Peak/Off Peak) |
Base Value | The cost value applied if there is no variation |
Unit | How costs should be calculated from the base value (usually $/kWh) |
2. Use the down arrow to add TOU schedules to the TOU group (you should see all TOU schedules created in this list). You can also enter the appropriate rate next to each TOU schedule.
Note: overlapping TOU schedules are depicted in bright pink
Once completed, SAVE the TOU Group. Once TOU Group(s) are created, the list view will display it with a number of data columns.
Add Chargers to a TOU Group
Add chargers to a TOU Group by clicking on the group to select it, then pressing the icon. The upper 'Current Members' list will display all chargers already added to the TOU Group, and the lower 'Available to add' list depicts all plugs that can be added to the Group. Locate the charger(s) to be added, click its checkbox, then click the icon to add it.
You can confirm the successful addition of plug(s) by observing the 'Members' column, which displays the number of plugs currently applied to the TOU Group.
TOU Reporting
TOU Group reports can be generated by selecting the TOU Group, then pressing the icon. Then, the desired report date or date range can be selected. This will email a link to the email address associated with your account from which the TOU report can be downloaded.
The report output is a CSV that is formatted as follows, with each row representing the TOU readings for a distinct charger on a distinct date:
Header | Serial No | Reading Time | Reading Date | TOU 1 - kWh | TOU 1 -kW | TOU 2 - kWh | TOU 2 - kW |
Device-specific TOU reporting can be obtained by visiting that devices 'Device Detail' page from the Devices module (double-click on the charger's row to visit the device detail page) under the Metrology dropdown.
The colored boxes will display the TOU schedule's 'meter reading' (starting from the first full day that the charger was applied to the TOU Group) along with a timestamp.
They also display the total kWh dispensed in each TOU schedule within the report date range (set in the upper right hand corner) and the associated costs.
The Metrology dropdown also includes a log of all dates within the report date range, which includes Energy (kWh) and Power (kW) readings for each TOU Schedule for each date. This log can be exported via the button.
