The access module is used to create Access Pools, which define how a group of chargers can be accessed, and by whom. Similar to a billing profiles, an Access Pool may be associated with many chargers, but a single charger can only belong to one Access Pool. Mobile Users and RFIDs may be added to an Access Pool to permit special access to that group of chargers.
Note: ZEFNETPros require additional Access configuration, outlined at the end of this article
Creating an Access Pool
1. Access Levels
To create an Access Pool, click the icon, and give the Pool a name. Select from one of the three following Access Level options:
Public | Your charger(s) should be accessible by any member of the public using the ZEFNET Charge mobile app or are in free vend mode and do not require authentication. |
Private | Your charger(s) should be accessible only by a predefined group of mobile users/ RFID card holders. |
Restricted |
Your charger(s) should be accessible by a predefined group of mobile users/RFID holders, or anyone that can supply a PIN code or be approved by an admin. |
Then proceed to supply the following attributes, depending upon the Access Level selected:
Public
Do not display chargers in the ZEFNET mobile app | Chargers will not appear in ZEFNET Charge mobile app (should only be used if the chargers are in free-vend or can be accessed via RFID). |
Enable free charging for members | Pool members can charge without being charged Billing Profile fees (see below for adding members to an Access Pool). |
Enable free vend | Chargers will be completely public and free to use; drivers will not need to use a ZEFNET identity to start a session |
Private
Do not display chargers in ZEFNET mobile app | Chargers will not appear in ZEFNET Charge mobile app (should only be used if the chargers can be accessed via RFID). |
Enable free charging for members |
Pool members can charge without being charged Billing Profile fees (see below for adding members to an Access Pool). |
Restricted
Do not display chargers in ZEFNET mobile app | Chargers will not appear in ZEFNET Charge mobile app (should only be used if the chargers can be accessed via RFID). |
Enable free charging for members | Pool members can charge without being charged Billing Profile fees (see below for adding members to an Access Pool). |
Enable access via pin code | ZEFNET app users can gain access to charger(s) by entering a PIN code. The PIN code is generated automatically within ZEFNET by checking this checkbox, and can be updated by clicking the Refresh button and then SAVE. |
Enable access on request | ZEFNET app users can gain access to charger(s) by submitting a request to an admin. The admin's email address(es) should be entered here - access requests will appear on the Access Pools list in ZEFNET on the far right hand side. |
2. Partner Access
ZEF currently has partnerships with other charging networks, that allows drivers who use these partner apps to view or access your charger(s). Fees collected from partner-initiated sessions will be remitted to your organization just as they would from ZEF-initiated sessions.
You can select whether these apps should simply surface the chargers (where they are visible on a charging map) or should permit access to initiate sessions via these partner apps.
Currently, ZEF lists two partner apps: AmpUp and ChargeHub. However, selecting ChargeHub will include your chargers on a broader network of charging apps via ChargeHub, including:
- Electric Circuit, Toyota, Nissan, Stellantis, Parkopedia, Fleetcor, SWTCH Energy, Presto Charge, Stay-N-Charge.
Click SAVE to save the Access Pool, at which point it will appear in your list of Access Pools.
Assigning Chargers and Members to an Access Pool
1. Select the Access Pool and then click the Members iconin the upper right hand corner.
2. The 'Members' list displays any plugs or Members (mobile users or RFID cards) that have already been assigned to the Access Pool. The lower 'Available to add' list shows plugs or Members that are available to add to the Pool. Note that a single Member can be assigned to multiple Access Pools.
3. Check the checkbox next to any plugs or member you'd like to add to the pool, and click the button. They should now appear in the 'Members' list. Click SAVE.
4. The Plugs column will display the number of plugs assigned to the Access Pool, and the Identities column will display the total number of mobile users and RFIDs assigned to the Access Pool.
Why can't I see a particular plug I'd like to add to this Access Pool?
Keep in mind that a single plug can only be added to one Access Pool. Please make sure that the plug in question has not already been added to another Pool. You can do this by visiting the plug's Device Detail page and looking at the 'Access' pool attribute.
Why can't I see a particular mobile user or RFID that I'd like to add to this Access Pool?
Please make sure that that mobile user or RFID card has been 'Enabled' in the Accounts module.
Configuring a ZEFNET Pro
Beyond being assigned to an Access Pool, ZEFNET Pros can be configured to allow for authentication via Mobile App (requires a ZEFNET Charge QR Code Label), via Card Reader or RFID (requires that the unit have a credit card reader).
To make this configuration, visit each plug's Device Detail page in the Devices module by double clicking on that plug's charger listing. Then click the wheel at the top of the page.
You'll be brought to a menu where you may set up the following:
Authorization Mode | This should reflect the plug's Access settings and need not be changed |
Payment method checkboxes | Check any/all methods that you'd like drivers to use to be granted access to this plug. |
Device State |
Operative = charger operates normally Inoperative = places the charger into 'inoperative' mode - the plug's LED light will turn red, and any 'reason' selected from the dropdown will be displayed on the device's screen. |
Timeout | Number of seconds that the charger will wait for a driver to plug in after providing authentication. |
