ZEFNET's Devices page defaults to a list of all charging plugs that have been allocated by (or shared with) the account organization. Within this page, a user can set up new chargers, quickly view charger status and attribute information, submit support tickets, and view detailed configuration and usage information on a plug-by-plug basis.
Unallocated Chargers
There are two tabs on this page, Allocated and Unallocated. Clicking on the Unallocated tab will display a list of chargers that ZEF has assigned to your organization, but have not yet been set up with basic installation attributes. For assistance with allocating a charger, please visit this article.
The unallocated tab is populated by ZEF, who by default assign chargers based on shipped serial numbers. If you do not see an expected serial number there, please contact support@zefenergy.com, providing your organization name and the serial numbers of the chargers you expected to see (we rely on our resellers to report serial shipment to us, which can lead to assignment being delayed).
Allocated Chargers
Once a charger plug has been allocated, it will appear as a row in the devices list under the Allocated tab (note this device can be filtered by groups or via the search bar). This list provides key information about the charger's status, name, comms status, and the status of any support tickets that may be opened for the charger. We'll cover each of these columns in turn:
Status - indicates the plug's status (updated ~ every 5 minutes).
charger is online and plug is available
charger is plugged into a vehicle but not charging
charger is plugged into a vehicle and charging % indicates how full the battery is - only available for DCFC |
|
charger is not communicating with ZEFNET; charger is powered off or has a comms issue
charger is exhibiting an error and requires support |
Auth - indicates whether the plug requires authentication (via app, credit card or RFID card) to use
charger does not require authentication and is free to use (see this article to get a charger out of free vend) |
|
charger requires some form of authentication to use |
Port - displays the plug type
J1772 (Level 2) | |
CCS (DCFC) | |
CHAdeMO (DCFC) |
Sharing
charger only appears in your organization's ZEFNET account
charger is being shared with another organization ###see ZEFNET Connect###

Serial - charger's factory serial number
Name - name as assigned during configuration (can be edited in Device Detail page - see below)
Model - charger's model number
Manufacturer - name of manufacturer
Since Last Comm - the time elapsed since the device's last check-in (should be ~ 5 minutes or less)
Support Tickets - indicates the number and status of any Support tickets that have been opened for that plug. To read about opening a Support ticket, click here.

Device Detail
For each plug, users can access a 'Device Detail' page by clicking the ellipses (...) or double clicking on the row. This page provides a wealth of detail specific to that plug, including its basic installation attributes, metering and comms data, a charging sessions log and power graph, and details about its configuration.
Header
Allows the user to edit the charger's allocation data, including charger name, charge ID (QR Code ID), charger site, breaker configuration, and utility. |
|
For ZEFNETPro chargers only: set the authorization mode (Credit Card, RFID, Mobile App), and edit the Device State (setting to inoperative will set the top LED lights to be red, with text on the screen indicating the reason)
Open a new Support ticket or view an existing ticket |
Details
References |
Name and sticker ID (QR code ID) defined during allocation Serial is tied to unit; Access Pool is the charger's access configuration |
Metadata |
Permanent data tied to the manufacture of the charger Install date is defined during allocation |
Environment |
Breaker name and amperage defined during allocation Breaker devices indicates the number of plugs attributed to a single breaker Sensed voltage and amps reports values sensed by the charger |
Communications |
Method may be cellular or WiFi depending upon config ###WiFi config### Last Handshake is the timestamp of the last communication with ZEFNET Timezone is defined during allocation and affects charger reporting |
Statistics
Comms Reliability (%) |
Reports the % of time the charger was in communication with ZEFNET over the selected time period (defaults to a week but can be adjusted in the upper right hand corner) |
Average Signal Strength | Average RSSI values received over the selected time period |
Average Daily (kWh) | Average daily kWh dispensed over the selected time period |
Meter Reading (kWh) | Meter reading, with timestamp from most recent check-in |
Instant
This graph illustrates the 'live' power values registered by the charger over the course of the date displayed in the upper right hand corner. Clicking and dragging over a selection on this graph can focus on a time period of interest, and adjusting the date range in the upper right hand corner can take the user to a date of interest in the past (e.g. adjust both start and end date to 1/1/2023 and that date will be displayed).
Charging Sessions
Each row on this record denotes a charging session that occurred within the selected date range on the plug. Data includes start/end time and duration (reflective of plug-in time), the total energy dispensed, the peak power reached during the session, and the cost (this draws from the charger's Billing Profile/Access Pool settings).
Additionally a row from this record can be expanded to view the details of the session, which can yield further granularity from the session, including OCPP events and the duration between each event.
Dropdowns
- Usage, Session Time of Use and Session Length are identical to those displayed in the dashboard, but reflect only the plug being detailed.
- Billing displays the charger's cost details as configured in its Billing Profile
- Metrology displays the charger's TOU metering values - please consult the Metrology page for more details
- Host and Utility Provider display information as entered during the charger's allocation
- Device Log will provide a complete log of all data transmitted by the charger to ZEFNET within a 24 hour period, including measures (voltage, amps, etc) and events (status, authorization, etc.). This log report can be exported via email by clicking the cloud icon in the upper right hand corner.
