ZEF Energy's residential chargers may be configured to connect to ZEFNET via WiFi where desired, provided that the unit has a 2nd generation comms board. Whether out of necessity or simply due to preference, this is a change that is straightforward but does require one-time coordination with ZEF to configure.
The procedure differs depending on whether your charger has a reliable cellular connection. Here is the process for setting up your ZEF resi charger with WiFi:
1. Send a message to support@zefenergy.com or ask your utility to open a Support ticket on your charger from within ZEFNET. Please include the following details:
- Notify that you would like to request your home charger be connected to ZEFNET via WiFi
- Provide your utility/co-op and charger serial number (found on the label of your charger)
- Provide the name and password of the target WiFi network.
2. You will receive a reply from ZEF Support with one of two responses:
a. If your charger is able to maintain a strong connection via cellular, ZEF Support should be able to respond to confirm that your charger is now successfully connected via WiFi.
b. If your charger unable to maintain a strong connection via cellular, ZEF Support will coordinate to schedule a time in which a ZEF Support agent will be available to assist in bringing the unit online. This will require someone with access to the breaker to stand near the charger with a hotspot-enabled mobile device.
Once step 2 is completed, your device should be connected via WiFi. This can be confirmed by visiting your charger's device detail page in ZEFNET.
